Companies That Hire Felons In 2024 (Updated List Of Over 200+ Employers)
While getting a job if you have a felony can be very hard, you should realize that there are THOUSANDS of places in the US that are willing to hire felons.
Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, were the unemployment rate is growing and people lose existing jobs, hundreds of small and large business are still hiring workers for all kinds of positions.
Many large popular companies as well as medium and small size businesses from a wide range of industries have a hiring policy that does not discriminate against applicants who have a felony conviction.
We have put together a comprehensive list of large companies that have a history of hiring felons and ex-cons.
This list has just been updated with new felon friendly employers added for 2022. Moreover, we regularly review the list and add more companies when we learn that they are hiring felons.
To increase your chances of getting the job, it’s best to apply to as many open positions as possible. Don’t just stick to one industry, such as food delivery, or hospitality, or retail. Most people can do entry level work pretty much in any field of work, so don’t limit yourself!
Some people mistakenly assume that this means a company will definitely hire you, and get disappointed and discouraged when they get rejected. What the policy means is that they will not discriminate against you based on your felony or misdemeanor
However, you must still demonstrate that you are the best person for the job in order to be considered for employment.
List of top companies hiring felons
Keep in mind that the companies on this list are not necessarily hiring right now. They are listed because they have a history of hiring people with felony convictions.
When you click on the name of the company you will be taken directly to their hiring/careers page. Take a look at what positions they have currently open and if you find something that may work for you start filling out the application.
Its always a good idea to go back to companies that you liked and check whether any new positions have opened up.
To make your search easier, the list is broken down based on industry. Also, note that this is NOT a complete list. Across the US, there are hundreds more small companies, retail stores, restaurants, factories, construction businesses, offices, etc that are looking to hire employees on a regular basis.
To widen your search, look for local jobs on Craigslist and Indeed.com. While you may not know if a company will hire a felon, you can still apply. You don’t loose anything by trying!
Job Search Tip: you may be surprised to know that in addition to a criminal background check, many companies also run a credit check on prospective applicant. They want to see someone with good credit, as this shows a person’s ability to take responsibility and be a dependable worker.
Unfortunately many felons struggle with bad credit, and this can actually be a big hurdle to getting a job. The good news is that overtime it is possible to fix your bad credit, and raise your credit score back up.
While this may not seem important, you should actually make improving your credit a big priority. Experience shows that this helps felons get jobs!

Freelancing / Online Jobs
If you are into coding, blogging, web design, etc, you can get a freelancing job online. There is no background check or formal interview with HR required.
All you need is a portfolio of previous work and a few good reviews on your page. This is a great way to start your own business and make a 6 figure salary! If you don’t have any technical skills now, consider learning them, because this is a great way to earn a living.
As a freelancer, you are pretty much not limited by your conviction at all, as most clients that will hire you, will never even consider running a background check on you – these are usually small businesses and solopreneurs that need some remote (usually programming or graphics design or writing) job done.
Also, your pay is usually directly related to your skills. For example, if you are a decent software developer, you can easily earn $35-70/hr or more.
Consider learning a mobile app development or some popular web programming language, such as JavaScript, Ruby on Rails, or even PHP!

Upwork – biggest freelance job marketplace – has most clients who can hire you, but also, biggest competition of freelancers around the world.

Oil and Gas
One booming industry that is very open to hiring ex cons is oil and gas. Oil and gas jobs are growing at an unprecedented rate and this growth will continue in the coming years. There are plenty of high-paying jobs in this field but many people don’t want them because of how demanding the work is.
Oil and gas companies are willing to hire qualified felons, and you don’t even need a high school diploma to be considered. Most positions offer on the job training, and there are professional growth opportunities for people who want to stay in this career for the long haul.
Most gas and oil fracking jobs are located in California, Texas, Oklahoma, Alaska, Utah, North Dakota, Colorado, Pennsylvania.

OXY (formerly Anadarko)
Chevron

In addition to the giant corporations on this list, there are actually over 14,000 small companies that are in the oil and gas drilling business. This means that if you have the stamina to endure hard work, you will most likely find a job in this field.
Temp Agencies
Many felons report having luck getting employed when they go through a temp agency. The benefit of working with a temp agency when you have a felony conviction is that they will only offer you jobs that they think you can actually get. The temp agency already has a contract with an employer and they know exactly who is qualified to get a job. This makes your job search less of a desperate shot in the dark.
Additionally temp agencies enable you to apply to multiple positions at once. When you sign up with a temp agency and submit your resume and references, they do the job search for you. Once they find something, you just have to be ready to take it.
Signing up with a temp agency will not cost you any money. This is because they get paid by the employers when they recruit someone for an open position.
Keep in mind that most temp agencies will run a background check on you, and some will reject you because of the criminal record. However, many temp agencies regularly work with felons and help them find good jobs.
While temp jobs can be very frustrating because they last a few weeks to a few months, its still a step in the right direction and some cash flow in your pocket.
Although not ideal long term, having various temping jobs helps you build your resume and demonstrates to prospective employers that you are serious about working hard and holding down a job.
Part time and seasonal jobs
If your felony has been preventing you from finding full time work, it may be time to consider part time or seasonal work opportunities. While the money you earn at a part time job may not be enough to pay your bills, it is still a good idea to take a part time job for the following reasons:
– having a job will boost your self-confidence that you are worthy of having good paying work
– working will help you stay out of trouble, drugs, alcohol, crime, etc
– any real job will improve your resume and will show future employers that you are a reliable worker
– if you work hard, a part time job can be a springboard for getting a full time position
All of the above benefits apply to seasonal positions. Most large retail stores, shipping companies and grocery chains are always hiring during their busy seasons. The biggest hiring rush is obviously around Thanksgiving/Christmas time.
While this job may only last 3-5 weeks, it can be a great learning experience and a resume booster. Plus, a little extra cash in your pocket:)
Will the company preform a criminal background check?
The short answer is “yes”. By law, the company is allowed to check criminal records and other types of legal and financial history of every prospective employee. However, depending on the state and the company, there are different policies regarding criminal background check .
For most companies the standard policy is to look back at criminal records up to 7 years. In some places, this time period is as little as 3 or 5 years. Some states allow the company to access records without a time limit. This means that if you committed a felony 35 years ago, the company will still find out about it.
There are a number of states that report even the None-Guilty verdicts (Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, DC, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming).
Unfortunately, what this means is that you may have an easier or harder time getting a job as a felon, simply depending on where you live. If you have been struggling without a job and continuously get turned down, consider moving to a state with more lenient laws when it comes to background checks.
These are: California, Colorado, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, Texas, and Washington.
Employment is offered on a case by case basis
When you are looking through the list of felon friendly employers and filling out applications, the most important thing to keep in mind is that each company will judge your felony on a case by case basis.
For example, a trucking company will be more concerned with driving violations, drug related crimes, car theft, etc, than other types of violations. Similarly, a hotel will be more worried about theft and violent crimes than other felonies.
This means that you need to think about whether your felony would be admissible in the type of work your are pursuing. Don’t apply to be a cashier if you have theft or other financial fraud charges on your record!
Also, be ready to take up entry level, minimum wage jobs that don’t require any major skills. Most companies will also be hesitant to hire a felon for positions where a lot of customer service is involved.
In general, registered sex offenders, and people with history of violent crimes and assault, will have the hardest time getting employment.
Your goal should be just to get your foot in the door. Once you land your first job as a felon, you will have much easier time looking for better, higher paying jobs in the future. You will also have a chance to move up in rank with the company that hired you in the first place.
Still no luck finding a job?
Many felons come to us for advice because they have applied to all kinds of jobs and just continue getting rejected. The mantra: “just keep trying!” does not seem to work anymore. In this case, maybe you need to shift your gears all together and start thinking outside the box.
Instead of looking for manual labor, entry-level jobs, you need to consider opening up a small business, improving your education, getting technical training, etc.
If you are considering opening up your business but are worried that you don’t have any start up money, there is good news. There are a number of federal and state business loan programs for felons that want to start their own business.
Moreover, on-demand economy is rapidly growing in the US. These jobs are like freelancing, they often don’t require interviews or background checks, just your skills, and willingness to work hard. Perhaps you can look for a job in this niche.
Share your feedback and let us know whether you have been hired by any of the companies on our list.
North Carolina sucks for getting a job while a felon only companies that EVER hired me and I have applied to over 2,000 jobs have been Sears, Supreme Maintenance Organization, Goodwill and Sheetz. It sucks its like they want you to fall right back in the system. I am currently in the home buying process and have 1.5 years left for my bachelors degree and I’m scared that when I graduate I wont be able to even use my degree.
My field is somewhat forgiving as it’s high demand. Im a felon (theft 2009) in North Carolina my felony conviction is not whats keeping me from gaining employment, its all the times my ex wife has filed charges against me out of spite, they aren’t convictions all are dropped. The state allowing charges not just convictions on background checks & her malice keeps me from 30.00+ hr jobs.
What is your degree in. I can tell you whether you can use your degree to get hired.
I understand exactly what you’re going through. I haven’t been able to get a job at all in NC because of my felony. They really do want us back because they profit from jail. NC is a conservative hateful ass state and it’s getting worse because NC, especially where I live in Raleigh is tryna to force anyone in lower class out of it. This is how bad it’s gotten just in 3 years:
I was released from prison in 2017 for a violent felony I plead guilty to in 2013 and got a manufacturing job in the first 30 days I was out. Unfortunately me and other workers were laid off because of a supply and demand decrease. Since 2018 it looks like everywhere and everybody in NC is using criminal background against me like a punching bag to try to make leave the state, go to jail or loose everything and hold up a homeless sign! A Wake County sheriff deputy even told me its “all about the money of jail profit” in NC. I’m leaving the month, I’m not about to loose because of a hateful corrupt state!
There is one reason why felons cannot be hire and that is employers would rather someone with no record the hire a felon because they want to protect their image and brand.
Is there any jobs in NJ that will hire felons.
You know that what you are saying is nonsense, right?!
In a state with 9 million population, many of whom are felons, all the felons are unemployed, or cannot get employment?
If you cannot get a job does NOT mean others can’t! There could be a million reasons why you can’t get a job… Starting with type of your felony, a and ending with your personal qualities as a potential employee
May be you read my post wrong I was asking is there any jobs that hires felons in jersey just trying to find a job to support my family and every job I apply to offers it to me base on my experience and qualifications but once they see I have one 4th degree felony they take the offer back
It depend on the company. Get help from your Probation Officer in your state
Hello i am look for a job but i have a misdemeanor on my record
Your Daughter needs to go states that only look no further than 7 years of a record.
My daughter has a felony. Never was in trouble, was working 80 hours a week, going to college, got her bachelor’s degree. She only got probation -5 yrs – was released from that in less than 2. She has a Certificate of Relief from the State of NY, but since she now lives in MS, it does her no good. In NY she got hired after her conviction in the health field and got glowing references from that job. In MS any healthcare won’t even interview her to hear what the conviction involved. She does have a job, with Verizon Cellular, but she would like to work in the field she has her degree in. She is hoping that someone will at least interview her. So, she waits…..

I am originally from Virginia where i received my felony for grand larceny back in 2001. I received a misdemeanor internet charge in 2010. Since my release from prison in 2007 i have had no luck in the employment of any kind of full time employment.
Try the community colleges and see what kind of trade programs they have and sign up for one of those trades you might be interested in. There might be Apprendice programs for you to get trained and be paid for it. Good Luck. God Bless.
I work at FedEx Express and they do NOT hire felons. It’s hard to get on if you even have a misdemeanor. And definitely ZERO traffic infractions. You can’t just say Fedex as there are 5 different Fedex branches and they are all considered different companies. Ground and Freight might, but Express definitely doesn’t.
I was wondering do Target hire ex-offenders
It depends on the state where you live. My border state in the Southwest will NOT hire felons. You can try in the state where you live and maybe have better luck than I did.
Hey this steve if u want yo more sbout who will hire text me or call me at 986 200 2259
Does anyone know if it is possible for a s*x offender to become a licensed electrician or licensed in any of the skilled trades. Having trouble looking up this information.
@Marty,
I believe there are no restrictions as far as your criminal background and getting licensed. Just read requirements / prerequisites for the license you want to apply to. Also you should call local licensing board or agency in charge.
When I was getting my CSL (construction supervisor license) there were no background checks done in the process.
Cheers
If I was hired to a job that new I had misdemeanors and worked for them through a temporary service which also new of my background cause they also do background checks. Got hired on to the company then after working with the company over a month was let go do to my record. Is that cause for them to let me go?
Depends on your state, many states are “right to work states” meaning they can fire you for any non protected reasons ( race, religion, s*xual preference) . I.E. if your boss doesn’t like your new haircut they can fire, I mean they really don’t need a reason.
Is there anywhere wfh that’ll hire felons? I really need a job thatI allows me to work from home.
Try remote customer service jobs.
After many failed attempts to get a better job just to make ends meet..I am out of options. I can’t afford to move. I do currently have a job..but it’s not enough. It was mentioned to starr a business if one has a hard time..but how can one do that if they can barely feed themselves?
Walmart does not hire felons
They hire felons..depends on the charge and if you can pass their background assessment.
I work for Walmart now and I’m a felon they do hire felons
It depends on the state where you live. In my border state in the Southwest they will not hire felons. They despise them.
NOT in my border state. Wal-mart does NOT hire felons period. The only retail store that I know of in my border state that will hire felons is Family Dollar.
Dollar General DO criminal background check.
I have a felony dui and I work in a high finance role. You have to keep applying. Play the numbers game. Also, stop pitying yourself and start making yourself more attractive to employers. I became active in my community. I took every opportunity to volunteer. It helps the soul too. I’m willing to give advice. Don’t give up.
Can u tell me about ur high finance. I would like to become an income tax accountant
S.baldomero713@gmail.com thank u
You might be right in a sense. But it depends on what state you live in. My border state in the Southwest despises felons. they want them to die on the streets and go without food.
Most of the companies listed don’t hire felons. These sites don’t do there own research. They don’t contact these companies directly and inquire about their hiring policy. They get their info from other sites.
My son is 48 yrs. has felonies, non violent no drug charges, he get turned down every where he goes, he needs a job so bad !
Have your Son contact the local community college and see what kind of trade programs are available to train for. Maybe even have an apprentice program that will pay him to learn.
Sounds like he’s a s*x offender. No one hires s*x offenders. May God Bless us with him being diagnosed with a terminal disease.
Not true! Medline’s will give you a chance. I had to take a alpha plea to incest last year. Sucks really bad. He said she said case. Even the judge stated so. My step daughter wanted to do whatever she wanted to do and I put her out. Fought for over 2 years before pleading and them throwing out 4 other charges and going through 2 prosecutors. I have had over 5 job offers and Medline believed in me, however, it was within 1000 ft of a school and my probation officer wouldn’t let me work there. I’m not a threat to no one. I’m registered as a s*x offender and explained my case to the HR manger and got the job. It’s a shame they say they want you to have meaningful work but deny you after working so hard to get one. I just had a job offer the other day for $70,000 – only to have it pulled after my background came back. Even spoke with the HR manger there as well. I’m losing hope right now. But will continue to keep trying as long as I have the strength to do so. Hard though. Suicidal thoughts are increasing my the day!!
My husband has DUIs like 4 and 2 felonies. He has found success working at animal hospitals as a kennel tech. Or at pet stores some do sales where you make commission
Promise you that T-Mobile does not hire felons. In fact, they redo background checks every 2 years now.
I’m a manager at T-Mobile and I caught a felony charge while working here. They did just do a background check which was the first one in the 9 year’s I’ve been employed here but they did not fire me or say anything about it.
I have dui’s. No one will give me a job. I have been applying all over. Can’t get to a job without a license. Felony prohibits me from working, and I have a good work history. Just got out of prison and society has black labeled me. Not sure what to do. Your information seems truthful, but not accurate. There are about 2.3 million of us.
Try the trades. Contact your local community college and see what kind of trade programs are available that might interest you. Good Luck.
Try the local community colleges and apply for the Pell Grant and get into a Trade Program. Good Luck.God Bless.
Your guy!! society black lists you over 1 mark. Most of society thinks they are better than we who have made mistakes. Crazy thing is that GOD see how they handle those who have made mistakes and want to change life but people want to keep us down. I have a big hearted son who has a felony and society looks at us like we are crap. He’d love a steady honest job that someone could look passed their high and mighty self
Amazon do not hire felons for Amazon Flex. I’ve applied to amazon twice. They lie and said if your conviction is over 10 years your fine. That’s not true.
If your conviction is over ten years you should file as the court to get your convictions expunged or sealed so it can no longer be pulled up in your record. Good luck.
Yes however , any company that requires a federal background check will 100% see any charges brought against you as well at if was dismissed with prejudice etc. which will mean you’ve spent money you likely didn’t have to expunge it! I know from personal experience after writing I had no criminal record and thankfully I was given opportunity to explain what the charge was / dismissed after diversion program. And I was 18 when charge came and had no other record of felony or misdemeanor. The COE was very kind and allowed me to be hired after personally meeting with me and telling me that an expunged record can be seen by certain companies.
it depends on the offense. Some offenses are reported no matter how long ago they were committed EVEN IF it was just a 10-year search. Some companies request searches that go back farther than 10 years… some ask for 99 year searches (this is what I do for a living). The criminal searches are not equal across the board.
Thank God I dodged that bullet. I currently drive the city buses now. So it all worked out
Kelly may you tell me more about how jobs work on if you have a criminal record on theft and you only did it once. Such as what are the best places to apply at? I have Chick-fil-A on mind, but I’m not sure if they will hire me. I just want to know what I would be getting into before actually trying to apply for the job..
It depends on the franchise owner. In my border state in the Southwest they will NOT hire felons. They despise felons in my border state.
It depends on the franchise owner of Chick-fil-a. The owner of the company has a policy of hiring felons but the franchise owners are the one’s who are hard heads will not hire felons. I applied twice in my border state. And they said HELL NO.
Chick-fil-A will hire you with a theft conviction as long as you are honest about it. They have such a high turnover and would be glad to have you. I worked for one in Louisiana. Besides it’s a Chrisitian company.
Is there a way to see how far back a company requires a record? I’m very excited about a possible job I’ve been trying for over a year to get! I did not lie on my application, but no one has even mentioned my conviction record! My offer letter is here (pending background)and I have a start date. My convictions are over 15years old. If they only require a 7 year im fine, if not I’m screwed. I just want to know what I’m in for. 🙁
Amazon hires felons. Almost every company will hire felons. It’s a case by case basis. It’s all based on the individual. Which sometimes sucks but it’s true.
They do hire ex felons cause my niece workedvat McDonalds as a kitchen manager. Now she works at Subway as a kitchen manager. So it may be due to the charge. Always never hurtd to ask them about that. The only stupid questions are the ones not asked.
In another article companies that will not hire felons are included here as companies that do.
Costco
McDonald’s
Walmart
This is confusing.
Can you please clarify this contradiction?
My wife is a felon and works at Mcd’s
In my border state in the Southwest they will NOT hire felons period. The only job offer I received in 9 years of looking is Chipole Mexican Grille. That is it.
I have a felony in I was to work at Walmart
It’s not a company that you mentioned but I can confirm that Men’s Wearhouse DO hire felons. They also promote them to management.
I have four felony possession and two misdemeanor stealing and I was hired on at Costco making 18$ an hour
Costco in my border state in the Southwest would not hire me. None of the big box stores. This state where I live despises felons.
Would you mind telling us what you do and what state you are in, this info can help a lot of people. You could even charge people for helping them apply as well and prep for their interview.
where is your job located ? i need a job thats paying $18 , i got 3 felony’s
That is great my husband and i wants to move and are having a hard time finding him work. Your comment gave me hope.
Justin
This fella has been working at Costco since 2018 after 2 years in prison for possession.
So Costco DOES hire felons …
