Do Amazon Hire Felons In 2024?
Amazon is currently offering a $3,000 sign on bonus for new warehouse workers. Being a warehouse worker is one of the easiest jobs for a felon to get!
Moreover, Amazon announced that it is hiring additional 100,000 workers for its 100+ warehouses in the US, to keep up with surge in online orders.
Additionally, Amazon is hiring about 30,000 new employees for development/programming, and other office jobs.
If you have a felony and are looking for a job, consider applying with one of the biggest employers in the US today – Amazon!
That’s right, Amazon does hire felons! With a conviction, your best bet is to get a job at one of hundreds of Amazon’s warehouses, which are located all across the states.
Don’t miss this opportunity to get hired and earn some money. Even if its only a temporary position, it will look great on your resume and will make it easier to get the next job. If you work hard, you may be able to become a permanent employee at Amazon.
In this guide we will review how much Amazon pays its warehouse employees, what the job requirements are, background check, etc.
[SALARY] As of 2021, Amazon has announced that a new company-wide minimum pay is $18/hr for transportation and fulfillment workers. Both are possible for people with felony convictions to get hired for.
Can a felon work at an Amazon fulfillment center?
Currently, there are over 200 associate level positions across various Amazon warehouse fulfillment centers around the US.
If you are not able to get a job at an Amazon warehouse, consider applying to Walmart or Home Depot. Both companies have a lot of warehouses all over the US and always need workers.
Overall, Amazon’s employment policy does not discriminate against individuals with felony convictions. However, your chances of getting hired will depend on the following factors:
What type of felony conviction do you have?
If you have been charged with any type of violent crimes, sex related crimes, theft and drug related crimes you will most likely not be hired.
Still, we strongly encourage you to apply regardless of what your crime is, because by applying to as many positions as possible you increase your chances of eventually getting hired.
How long have you had a criminal record?
Many states don’t allow employers to access records that are over 7 years old. Moreover, on the application itself, you will be asked if you have been convicted on a felony in the past 7 years. This means that if your charges are older than that, you have a greater chance of being hired.
Your previous work experience and how good your resume is
If you have no work experience, a good option is to volunteer at a local church or community center. Helping others will allow you to get very good recommendations and will show that you are trying hard to be a productive member of our society.
Your level of transparency
Being 100% honest about your conviction is a key factor that can determine your chances of employment. All felons that report about getting a job at an Amazon fulfillment center, share that they have been very forthcoming about their criminal past.
They volunteer and fully disclose all information both on the application and during the interview process. If you try to hide anything, you will not be offered a job.
Build rapport with the hiring manager
During the interview, make an effort to establish a personal connection with the manager and try to get him/her to empathize with your situation. If the hiring managers likes you, they will be much more willing to offer you a job, despite the felony conviction.
If you are denied employment at Amazon because of your conviction, there are hundreds of felon-friendly jobs that you can apply for. Don’t get discouraged by rejections – if you persist, you will eventually land a job.
What is an average salary for an associate at an Amazon warehouse?
Overall, the reported pay rate for a fulfillment center associate starts at $15 per hour for day shifts. For night shifts and overtime, you can get payed $16-17 per hour, depending on the center’s location.
Keep in mind that salaries will vary locally depending on where the center is located. Some states and cities have a higher standard of living (more expensive rent prices, food, gas, etc) and therefore average salaries there will be higher compared to less wealthy places.
In addition to a good salary, Amazon offers a great perk: tuition assistance. This means that you can be studying to earn a professional degree and Amazon will help you pay for some of its cost.
Job requirements
Amazon has various types of warehouses: order fulfillment centers, sorting centers, delivery stations, Prime Now Locations, College Campus Pick Up Points. Associates working in these different centers need to do different types of tasks.
These are general guidelines to give you an idea of what type of work you would need to perform as an associate at a fulfillment center. Every position and particular center may have additional requirements that you will find out about during your interview.
– Have a High School Diploma or equivalent
– Be at least 18 years old
– Read and take direction in English
– Able to lift up to 49 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
– Able to stand/walk for up to 8 hours
– Willing and able to frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach
– Continuously climb and descend stairs safely (applies to sites with stairs)
– Willing and able to operate carts, dollies, hand trucks and other moving equipment to move large quantities of merchandise
Other preferred requirements include, but are not limited to:
– Possess a professional demeanor
– Be an effective verbal communicator
– Have basic ability to navigate the Internet, email and instant messenger tools
– Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously
– Willingness to work in fast paced team oriented environment
If you are applying for a back-end position, you will not be asked to worked with customers. You will be dealing with packages, and moving equipment.
However, if you are applying for a front-end position, such as a clerk at a Campus Pick-up point, you will also need to deal with customers. For a felon this job may be harder to get, especially depending on the nature of your conviction.
Does Amazon do a criminal background check and drug testing?
Yes, the company always does both for all of its prospective job applicants. After you have successfully passed your initial interview, you will be asked to agree to criminal background check. Once you pass it, the drug test is the last stage of the selection process. If you pass it, you will be offered employment.
Keep in mind that it may take 10-14 days for your background check results to come back and be processed. You will be notified via email whether or not you have successfully passed the background check.
Then, you will be asked without notice to come in a do a drug test. Some centers ask for a mouth swab, and others ask for a urine sample.
Keep in mind that its best to stay away from any drugs, including weed for at least two weeks prior to your potential drug test, because the active ingredients in those drugs, such as the THC in weed stay in your system for many days.
Moreover, Amazon reserves the right to administer random drug testing on the job. If the test comes back positive, your employment will most likely be terminated.
What is the best time to apply?
Amazon always has some warehouse positions open. However, they create many more seasonal jobs around the times of the holidays: September, October, November, December. Y
ou can also apply to be a delivery driver for Amazon, as these jobs also go up in demand during the holiday season.
It may be easier to get your foot in the door as a seasonal employee. If you do a good job, you have greater chances of being asked to stay in a part-time or full time permanent position.
I have a county criminal misdemeanor can I be hire ??
Do They Hire People With Withheld adjudication On Felony Charges?
I dont even know why this is posted. Amazon does NOT hire felons period. I worked in Human Resources there for 2 years, it’s Federal mandate to include Background discrimination statements, etc. But internally is a whole different ball game. No they will not hire you whatsoever if you have any type of criminal history or arrest record for that matter regardless of conviction or not they will not hire you. Honestly find another company to work for, you’ll feel better about yourself and wont be treated like trash.
Do Amazon Hire People With unlawfully carrying of a pistol misdeamnor ???
I been convicted for misdemeanor pwisd marijuana it been 2 week now will Amazon hire me?
Such bs, I went yesterday they took pic for my badge and drug test. This morning I got a email saying “my background is under further review”. Which what every other place I apply at says whenever my background comes back. I got a Class A misdemeanor 6 & half yrs ago, and that’s the only thing on my record. I’ve been trying to get a job forever but this charge always is the reason why I get declined. Ups, Walmart, Best Buy, Samsung, T.J. Maxx, Home Depot, , TomThumb, and other companies.
**update**
BTW- I only have 1- class A misdomeanor happened 6 yrs & 9 months ago.

My son was just denied a job at amazon. He was convicted of selling weed in Pennsylvania and was convicted of felony. First time offense and only a small amount. He was honest about it on the application. He didn’t even get ANY jail time only probation. Now he can’t get any job at all.
I’m 19 years old, I really wish I never got to this point in my life. I f**ked up so badly and there’s nothing I can do about it.. this is going on job #5 where I’m trying to apply. Past 4 been denied for what I was convicted of a couple months ago. I don’t have to register, or have to spend time in jail, I have to undergo s*xual evaluations- $400, with working a minimum wage job right now, it’ll take me a month of saving every penny.. literally.. $232 paychecks. I can’t survive like this. I’m just at a breaking point. I made a mistake at night on Instagram and decided to do something I’d later regret very much. (Nothing in person) I just wish people would believe I’ve put all that behind me.. I don’t think like that I just want to better myself.. this really sucks.. my life ended before it even started..
not to mention, they decided to nail me with charges too. Including the pictures of weed I had in my photo gallery. They’ve been looking to bust me for so long and they finally got the chance. For whatever reason. so is the best route suicide at this point? Like seriously what’s going to be the point in life only getting $400-500 a month..
Work for yourself. Cut yards, rake leaves, clean gutters. Forget it ever happened. Learn a trade, roofing, brick mason, tree cutter. Make your own destiny. Screw the system. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Tickle,
This is one of the best advice I hear in the long time. I myself am a roofer, and had written about doing roofing / construction as one of the best ways for ex-felons to earn a living, and a very good one in most cases!
The problem and a benefit is that many ex felons (and not felons) are drunks, on drugs, don’t have a license to drive, and are generally unfit to be good workers. Why I say a benefit? Because if a guy is NOT a drunk, not on drugs, has a license, and has good work attitude, shows up to work and does good job, contractors will fight over him, and bump up his salary. And once the guy learns the trades, he can start his own company.
I know first hand how hard it is to find good, clean, reliable guys. Also, my friend just fired his entire crew, and now only hires subs. Because he was sick and tired of same b/s every week:
On Monday they show up 3 hours late or don’t show up at all. Every other day, their car is broken, or they just don’t show up at all because the are drunk/high and sleeping. All week (every day) they bum/borrow “$100 until Friday”, and then when payday comes and they only get $200-300, because they already borrowed the rest of week’s pay in advance, they get upset – why we get so little pay???
Basically, there is a real need to reliable guys, with good hands and brains. Being a contractor for over 15 years, I was never asked by a homeowner anything about criminal record! No body really cares … they sort of trust you by default. Preserve that trust, do good works, show up on time, and you will succeed!
I have a breach of trust charge was convicted and paid my fine back it’s been about 6 1/2 years since then do I have a chance of getting hired?
Are they doing drug testing right now
Tameka,
Right now they are doing Coronavirus testing. They don’t have time to test for drugs.
Besides all drug test labs are either closed, or also are testing exclusively for Corona
What panel type do they use for the drug screen?
My thing is this, if amazon says “in the past 7 years have you ever been convicted of a felony” and if I t’s been over 10 years why shouldn’t they still hire you. They might as well say have you ever been convicted of a felony period overall. And also isn’t against federal law and regulations to look back more than 7 years?
I had a possession of firearm in 2010 (non violent) & just a got denied the opportunity to work for Amazon only because of that. I served my time for my charges & it has been over 10 years. Please explain to me why I’m not qualified for employment @ Amazon? I’m not a violent person, I don’t have any larcenies or any type of thefts. I have worked for over 20 years & no employer would ever talk down on my work ethnics, teamwork or attendance. Again please explain this to me….
I had a misdemeanor of petty retail theft and got rehired I worked for them previously and I thought I wouldn’t get hired back in but they did .. Now I have a felony for misappropriate use to obtain money and one pending for false imprisonment And disorderly conduct misdemeanor also pending not convicted do I have any chance of getting hired back on??
Why you keep getting these felonies and misdemeanors? Like 1st time – ok … but you keep doing it …
As far as getting hired back … Pending is not on the record … so it does not count. It’s always worth a shot … not like you have many options now, with Coronavirus shutting down big and small businesses across the country.
However keep in mind that with so many newly unemployed folks looking to get any job (especially since Amazon increased minimum salary to $17/hr), you will have a lot of competition from folks with clean record.
I did two years in prison for possession of four Xanax pills and got out aug 2018 and have been working steady at Costco . I tried for amazon because it’s closer to home and applied during their busy season sept 2019. I was given a badge and drug test and was waiting for background check. Four months later they finally just sent me an email saying I do not meet the requirements to work for amazon. They never even called to ask about my charges or character references. It is impossible for felons to work. Thank goodness Costco took a chance on me
Son is a convicted felon for drug trafficking. He served 5 years in prison and is out and has been working odd and ends construction jobs ever since. His conviction was over 10 years ago. He has put in massive resumes to businesses and has totally changed his way of life. He was promised a job after paying for a course and 1 year later he is still waiting. Truly, does he have a chance to be even considered to work at an Amazon warehouse in the backend position.
Nope. Amazon changed their background process. It now says “have you been release from prison or parole in the last 7 years” I have a record from 10 years ago and got denied because of that. Trust me. Work for a real company. Amazon won’t be around to much longer with all the lawsuits
My conviction for a new law back then is technically doctor shopping over seven years ago. I went to a 17 month voluntary in patient rehab. I’ve been sober since June 2012, I speak at the courts and prisons. I have completely changed my life and I’m married to a attorney now. I went for my drug test, i9 and some other stuff. However they didn’t give me a option to say if I was convicted prior to 7 years and I take a migraine medicine that there was not a place to list on the drug test form. How do I talk to whomever I need to? I’d like to tell them about my migraine medicine and my conviction over 7 years ago.
Do I have any chance of being hired with a felony robbery conviction
To be honest no, please look for a small employer or landscaping or construction type of jobs as most all fortune 500 companies do NOT hire felons period.
Does Amazon hire people with identity thief i wrote a bad check
Will amazon hire me I have an interview but I also have a misdemeanor larceny on my background?
hey did you end up getting hired?
Does amazon hire people with domestic violence misdemeanors
If my s*x related offense was in 2001 and I have had continuous employment with one employer since 2002, do you think i will get through the background check?
What about a petty theft misdemeanor? This happened about four years ago just wondering if this will affect my chances of being hired.
Elisa,
With misdemeanor you have a better chance to get hired than if you had a felony. Definitely you should apply.
Good luck
I have a out of state misdemeanor for dwi will i still get hired
I have two misd stealing and had a potential start date of September 20 2019 and still haven’t heard anything. I call and email them every week and my “ background check is still being reviewed “
This makes ZERO sense.
That’s right, Amazon does hire felons! With a conviction, your best bet is to get a job at one of hundreds of Amazon’s warehouses, which are located all across the states.
– Type of conviction. If you have been charged with any type of violent crimes, s*x related crimes, theft and drug related crimes you will most likely not be hired. Right? They’re saying they’ll give you a chance if your felony is something like felony DUI, but nothing else.
See that statement makes no sense to me so make it make sense… Amazon does hire convicts. But if you have an aggravated, s*x crime or drug conviction then you most likely WONT be hired…. Wtf does this mean. Yes we hire what’s left DWI’s and enhanced misdominors. I am a convict and I do need a job like 6 months ago but get the run around or can’t get there for no bus route or whatever. Wish I could just catch a damn break. But thanks for the confusion. I feel better already… Not
S scroggins
I’ve worked in multiple Amazon warehouses and fulfillment centers. I have multiple felony convictions. Armed robbery when I was 18 and Breaking and entering on the same ticket. Most recently I was convicted of larceny in a building after picking up a wallet I found in Walmart that was 6 months ago. Anyways, I’m almost 28 and have worked as a mechanical contractor at multiple locations across the US. I guess I fall through the cracks being I work for a contractor but regardless of that fact Amazon states the reason of not hiring some felons is because of safety and security of their facilities…
Meanwhile here I am a walking indictment freely roaming about multiple facilities with no supervision or f**ks given. So all that safety security BS they push, is obviously nonsense. I personally remember doing contract work at a warehouse in New Jersey or Delaware (I don’t recall which one) – they had an employee working in shorts with his tether hanging loud and proud so yeah there you go. If Tyrone the plug, fresh out the trap can get a job then I’d say we all have just about an equal chance. Bottom line I’ve been breaking the rules and laws, ever since I can remember, felonies run in our bloodline, it’s always my work ethic thats gotten and kept me employed. Keep your head up, don’t let them push you down, you get discouraged or fed up fuck that try twice as hard. Someone’s going to see your determination and the fact you don’t stop until you get yours and give you a chance. Good luck.
Thanks for the encouraging words I have a felony. It is extremely hard for me to get a good paying job. I was hired at Purifoods. Then they emailed me saying they had to resign the offer because of my criminal record. I was devastated to see those words I was depressed for two days. My felony is Involuntary Manslaughter No prison time. I was in a abusive relationship for twelve years with my kids father i was forced to protect myself and he pass away by my hands. I been beat down to the point i couldn’t get out of bed, rape, torture, control and everyway u can think of. He tried and threathen to kill me many times i cant even count. I was protecting myself and society will see me as a violent person for the rest of my life. I am one of the nicest people you can meet I dont smoke drink or partying i never did. All i do is work and come home to my kids. I see myself doing so much more in life. I am fully capable of anything I have the intelligent, knowledge, the look, and personality. I am a very positive person but i am starting to get discouraged because of my felony. Anyone out there please get the courage some how in tell the police dont be like me. I was terrified and I felt alone. I felt like there wasn’t one out there that can help me because that is what he told me. I was brainwashed even after his death I was still scared. I thought he was coming to get me because that is what he told me. If ther is any woman man or child that is being abused please speak up. Even though i didnt die or go to prison. I am still suffering. I don’t wish this on anyone. Society will judge you and hold you accountable even when you are protecting yourself.
They have resources for domestic violence survivors. That can help you find a job and counseling, therapy, housing. Etc. It varies from different states. So contact your agency to see what they can do to help your situation
No they don’t. I have a felony for larceny from 1994 and that’s the reason they refused my application. Apparently their impression is once you make a mistake you’re a bad person for life.
Adam,
Often, large companies such as Amazon and Home Depot discriminate between job applicants on a case by case bases. Sometimes they do hire felons, other times they don’t. Perhaps the hiring managers at both companies had a lot to do with the decision not to hire you. If you don’t mind doing physical work, many local small to medium size construction and roofing companies are always looking to hire laborers. There is usually no prior experience necessary and many of the owners are very sympathetic to people with a criminal past who want to turn their life around and are willing to work hard. Best of luck in your job search!
If you read it right, then you will see that you wouldn’t be hired, if you’re a it tells you!!! Theft is one of them!!!! They said it in plain clear English!
Theft IS one of them. But it says no violence, no theft, no s*x charges, no drug charges: what other crimes are there? Does Amazon really think there are a bunch of felons out there busted for opening their neighbor’s mail? And going back 25 years is excessive. Once a thief always a thief, is that the idea? I currently work for three different multi-billion dollar companies, so it’s funny Amazon won’t hire me because of something 25 years ago.
I feel you Adam stay strong and work for yourself. Entrepreneurs do this all the time. when you become the ceo of your company they might even have you step down just to show that your company is reputable especially if it’s a Fortune 500…..gotta love America smh
I have felony possession charges for a dangerous narcotic as well as paraphernalia charges from a year-and-a-half ago. I am currently on probation for these charges once my probation is over in 4 months. I will be dropped to misdemeanor charges and I have also completed over 80 itentive out patient rehabilitative relapse prevention classes 28 drug education classes 28 healthy relationship classes trauma therapy for the death of my son who was killed by a drink driver a year and half ago and I have since graduated and took the the necessary steps I needed to in order to turn my life around.there is no handbook to tell you how you’re going to react to the death of a childso yes I made some bad choices and yes I took the necessary steps to correct those bad choices and also to ensure that they don’t happen again in the future why would I not be eligible for employment.i a year-and-a-half of clindrops three times a week every week for a year and a half as well as my felonies being dropped to misdemeanors in 4 months
Need work now
